Last Monday I had my local CWD rep out to try some saddles on Stampede and have been mulling over it ever since.
The saddle in question is a 17.5″ SE02 with a 4C flap and I became fast friends with it. It seriously is like riding on a cloud. In the end though, this saddle is one of the last things I’m trying to get Stampede going again so his opinion is most important.
I was able to keep it for a bit by writing a check for them to hold so I’ve been riding in it almost every day regardless of the horse involved. It fits P stock (as most saddles do) but will need to be re-paneled for Stamp. The incentive of this demo saddle is that they will re-panel the demo for free and I can get it back in just 2 weeks. Plus it’s slightly cheaper than new new and waiting 10 to 12 weeks.
Regardless, Stampede has shown some improvement at the trot with this saddle. Even when he was a bit spooky on Friday (que guy on scaffolding painting a gazebo while I’m riding alone in the ring) he didn’t get inverted, just a little behind the bit at times. He is actually back to seeking out bit contact. On Wednesday we did the full trot work of the lesson and he never spooked or got cranky at the trot. The canter is still rough but really I don’t expect that to improve yet anyways.
So tomorrow is my last day to try out the saddle and make a decision. Stampede better speak up now if he has any objections!
So, I’m biased, but OMG do it. Still the best decision I’ve made in my riding career, I think.
I have always operated on the idea that most of the French saddles were similar but I have learned that is not the case! Hoping it works out!
Um drool. I’m in love with that saddle! I hope Stampy decides not to have any objections 🙂
Me too, he needs a saddle that makes his back happy and I want this one to be it!
Buying the display saddle is genius. haha. Any time you can save a few $$. Plus, its in pristine condition, so basically new!
It has to have had less than a dozen rides before me, didn’t even have marks on the billets. The rep said he doesn’t even normally carry a flap that big. Biggest bonus to me besides savings is getting it fast!
ooooh it’s lovely! sounds promising!
It really is, I will write more about what is so different about it from other saddles I’ve owned if I get it. It’s interesting.
Ooooo pretty! You obviously need this 🙂
If it makes Stampy feel better it’s automatically on the need list! Doesn’t hurt that it’s beautiful and comfy too!
Ooooh love cwd. You’re so lucky to have a local rep.
I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it last week! Well we don’t have many brand reps so I was quite limited. Just Antares and CWD that I know of. Although Voltaire said they had hired someone who was going to start in the next few weeks. The local tack shops are no help at all if you are outside of standard fit.
Droooooool! I am so jealous. I want Henry to have a CWD one day (when we leap over stuff). How tall are you? I’m curious for myself as I’m 6 feet tall and am wondering what measurements I might need.
I’m 5’11” and longest from hip to knee. I was very surprised that I fit in a 4C honestly, I thought for sure I would be a 5 since my Antares is a 5AB (I could use a 5AAB honestly but got it used). My butet (which will be for sale soon) is a 3.25 flap which fits me well. So many flap codes.
You definitely need it… Just saying!
So true, lol
