TOA Blog Hop: A Rose

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.
Every horse seems to have at least three names:  the “real” one, the barn one, and that special one.  What are some of your pony’s names?

Phoenix

Registered Name: Fancy Quincy – sounds like a country boy name to me!

Baby "Fancy Quincy"

Baby “Fancy Quincy”

Show Name: Phoenix Rising

Wish all this cool art for Phoenix existed back in the day!

Barn Name: Phoenix (he came with this barn name)

Mr. P!

Mr. P!

Special Names: Most common are P or Mr. P, sometimes pony since he’s my much smaller boy. I can’t even remember why but when I owned him the first time his nickname was Boosh. I used to yell Boosh in an obnoxious way and he would whinny back. For some reason when I got him back I just didn’t have the heart to use that nickname again.

Stampede

Registered/Show Name: Gator Stampede

A Stampede of gators?

A Stampede of gators?

I do wish I had come up with a different name for showing, but too late now!

Barn Name: Stampede

Oh, the Stump

Oh, the Stump

Special Names: Stampy, Stamp, Stampidini, Stumpy (thank you autocorrect), Stump, and Mr. S. Sometimes also called special needs horse, special needs child, or fruit bat.

Fancy Quincy sounds much less western than Don’t Mess with Texas! They breed Tex to be western which he did oblige them but he is much more of a natural English horse.

But I do agree with the change to Phoenix Rising. It is much cooler!

I think Quincy is just a horrible name in general. I hear it in redneck tones in my head…

I like to think my boys were the cutest babies ever. I do think P looks extra cute because of his white and his size comparison to the dog in the background. 🙂

I like “fruit bat.” I have known a few horses that name would fit …

Fruit cake + ding bat = fruit bat. Stampede is good at fruit bat behavior sometimes!

I know, he’s just so adorable. I would have squished him all the time if I had known him as a youngster!

lol how is Quincy more redneck than Gator Stampede?! …though, it is a pretty bad ass name. Fruit bat!!! I love it.

Maybe the Gator part is a little redneck sounding if you’ve been watching too much Discovery Channel, lol. Stampede definitely fits the beast for name. Quincy however doesn’t fit or have any chance of not sounding redneck. I can’t even say it normally!
