The Good Pony

So way back on January 3rd my friend R took a few videos of me and P in a Saturday lesson which I am finally sharing. I’m very proud that Mr. P looks this good at 25 years old. Love him. 🙂

Here is my analysis of what the pony and I do well and what we need to work on.

P excels at:

-Knowing his job

-Being responsive

P needs to work on:

– Extending his stride versus just moving his legs fast at the trot

-Not getting his head too low

-Finding a balance where he is rocking back at the canter but still maintaining the right canter rhythm

I find at the canter when he gets excited his stride gets very short and up and down, so instead I try to pull him together to almost collection then try to just loosen up. You can see frequently I have trouble adding speed without losing the relaxed frame.

Kristen excels at:

-Having a straight back

-Having a quiet seat

-Enjoying the ride

Kristen needs to work on:

-Getting the heels down more

-Pulling the tips of my shoulder up and back

-Keeping the hands above the wither – I swear both my horses love low hands!

-Making sure there is enough leg to go with the hand

WARNING there is a lot of talking in the background of the video so you may want to turn your sound down. R is a talker. 🙂

To finish, here’s a picture of Stampede out in his set of pens with some hay today. I thought it was cute that he looked up from his hay when I got to the barn. Definitely not even completely sound at the walk, but sooooooo much better.

Playing catch up on last couple of days, so glad to hear that S is doing better and can move a bit if gimpily in his pen.
P sounds fabulous, sadly I haven’t been able to watch the videos yet as am on my phone in a bus and don’t have headphones 😉

I’m definitely hoping Stampy is on the mend now. Well if it helps you don’t really want to hear the sound on the video, it’s mostly my friend talking while holding the phone and you are lucky if you can hear my trainer at all in it, lol.

I know I need to remember that I am filming and shut up! I hate the sound of my voice. At least I didn’t yell at my child being naughty in the background like I wanted to! Lol

You did say something to that effect in one video, maybe one I didn’t post, lol.

He was being a total brat for K in the background tossing his head and prancing. I can’t wait until I can get back on the naughty pony!

Mr. P is the cutest! I know he’s not tall like Stampy but he really takes up your leg well.

Thanks, I just love his expressions because he’s always so happy to do whatever. He does take my leg up pretty nicely, but I think sometimes my upper body looks overwhelming. If Stampede doesn’t get his act together, I think P and I are going to campaign in equitation on the flat for all the home shoes on the circuit this year for fun. 🙂

Thanks, I like to think P looks good for his age! Funny how a little fresh air improves Stampede’s attitude even if he can’t really move around much.

I think he looks like a happy little kid (in horse form of course) in that picture for some reason. Maybe because his head looks oddly small? Lol.

I definitely try to tell myself he still looks young. A few extra white hairs and a slightly shorter stride but he is one happy old man!
