Somehow Christie and I decided that Sundays should be a no stirrup day for us. She also specified that I must do no stirrups on Stampede, just to keep things fair. So yesterday was our first no stirrup Sunday. The day dawned cloudy and rainy and the indoor footing wasn’t ready yet. So we womanned up and went for a ride in the light rain.
Ten minutes of trot work alternating between posting and sitting each lap and a few laps each way of canter found the horses happy about their easy workouts and the humans slightly damp from the rain and feeling the burn.
Mr. P had an easy day. A quick grooming and some stretches followed by a little grass eating.
I plan to ride P tonight and take a lesson on Stampy Tuesday. If all goes well we will be doing some real jumping.
You will be so ready for No Stirrup November!
At my barn only juniors have mandatory no stirrup November so I’ve never jumped Stampede stirrupless. Might be fun to try if his back is okay through the winter. I did jump him over little stuff bareback before all the kissing spines stuff, so several years ago.
I like this idea! Except I’m a giant wimp and am not sure that I could actually pull the stirrups off all the way. Props for that.
You just need a friend to suffer with you, lol. I would not be able to do it without some friendly competition.
I will have to check out your blog, thanks for commenting. 🙂
Oh man… the no stirrup burn. Go girl! You are motivating me! 🙂
