Now time for a Mr. P update!
We had a few rides outside towards the end of the year thanks to some amazingly warm temperatures in Michigan.
I also ordered P a Dark Jewel Designs browband when Amelia had her small business Saturday sale. I can’t say enough great things about Amelia, she was great to work with and I love my boy’s bling.
In between one of Stampede’s bouts of left hind hoof soreness Phoenix got his own left hind hoof soreness to add to the fun. Similarly, I would soak and/or wrap his hoof and he’d get better but as soon as I would stop it would come back.
At one point it seemed to be gone and I got a full week of riding in only to come out and find it back again plus P had cut his front leg and it was swollen. Trouble! Thankfully one night of wrapping the leg and it was mostly down to normal size.
So we spent a lot of time doing easy bareback rides where P was just slightly off but still good enough to move around a bit in hopes of getting rid of the abscess for good. We went along like that for a while, adding in some Previcox after the vet suggested it while out on a Stampede recheck of his swollen lymph node. He got to the point of completely sound to ride but clearly sore on that hoof after adding in the Previcox so we toodled a bit more.
Finally the Tuesday before last when my farrier came to work on the boys he found the abscess and dug it out. After many weeks my pony finally felt better!
We celebrated with a ride outside last Saturday on a warmer but insanely windy day. Mr. P loved it of course!
Another thing P and I have been working on is getting him used to the vacuum I got for Christmas. He allows me to use it but gets a bit nervous whenever the unit itself is rolling around.
Good thing he loves me, lol. Very happy to have him back at 100%!
So glad he’s feeling all better now! Such a cutie!
Thanks!
Phoenix is such a good dude. I’m still jealous of the vacuum.
He’s the best, such a solid citizen!
FINALLY! So glad the farrier was able to cut out that abscess!
Yes, finally!
awww yay for sound horses all around! also, aren’t vacuums pretty much the best?!? and i actually have yet to meet a horse that won’t tolerate it
My main issue with the vacuum is that I like to groom in the aisle and one of the horses freaks out in his stall when I use it which in turn freaks Stampede out. The best part is this is an expensive jumper who is grey has to have come from a fancy barn with a vacuum…of course he also goes crazy over people in certain coats.
