Well this whole week has been a bit crazy! Sunday afternoon and evening we got dumped on with a whole bunch of snow, followed be absolutely insane cold temperatures. Hiding indoors was about the only thing to do. I didn’t even make it to the barn Monday, and Tuesday I just stopped out to see the boys. Wednesday the temperature got up to about 6, so I hopped on P bareback and did a whole bunch of walking to get him moving.
Finally Thursday it warmed up to the teens and I rode Stampede. Due to a busted pipe part of the indoor had flooded though, so we had a smaller space to ride in. Stampede was very good, maybe the extra day off did him good. Pretty happy under saddle on the Stampede scale, and he was light on the aids.
I rode P yesterday. He was a bit off his game, rightly so since he had barely gotten out of his stall most of the week. On the weird side it was then almost 40 degrees out, so pretty much a 70 degree change this week. Now all the snow is melting everywhere. Today it’s even raining too. Ick.
I had a lesson today, but I only did the flat. There were quite a few people in the lesson, and with our currently shrunken indoor, it was a bit rough. Stampede had forward energy, which was nice, but he wasn’t being particularly light in my hands. We certainly had a few disagreements, and I was glad he wasn’t my only ride of the day. After I got Stampede cleaned up I got Mr P out for an easy stretch his legs bareback ride. He was much more like himself, although I didn’t push him.
I’ve decided that since I didn’t get to end my ride on Stampede on a good note today, I’m going to get back on him tomorrow instead of our usual lunge. He is already down a ride this week, so it should work out.
Hope Stampede is better tomorrow
Thanks. He was much better!
Hard to get good rides out of them when the weather is so crappy.
